Start here — apply for the Delta SkyMiles® Gold American Express Card through my referral link:

Use it and we could both earn rewards if you are approved and get a Card. Approval is never guaranteed — check the offers and Card benefits on the application page before you apply. Terms apply.

Most Delta SkyMiles Gold Card coverage lists the benefits and stops. This post does the opposite: it answers, one by one, the questions readers actually ask before applying — the fee, the bags, the credits, the welcome offer nobody should promise you a number for, and who should honestly skip this card. Every figure below was verified on American Express's official card pages in October 2026.

The Money Questions First

What is the annual fee?

A $0 introductory annual fee for the first year, then $150. That structure matters: your first year is a free trial of every perk below, and the $150 question only arrives at renewal — by which point you will know exactly how many bag fees and credits you actually used.

Can the free checked bags really cover a $150 fee?

American Express values the first checked bag waiver at up to $90 saved on a round trip per person. The waiver covers the Card Member and up to eight additional passengers on the same reservation — nine waivers maximum — as long as the Card Member's SkyMiles number is on the reservation. Two solo round trips a year already clears roughly $180 of value against the $150 fee, and one family round trip on a single reservation can clear it in a single trip. Your second checked bag is also free on domestic Delta flights.

What if I never check a bag?

Then the card's headline math weakens a lot, and this FAQ will not pretend otherwise. The remaining value would have to come from the credits and TakeOff 15 below — and if you fly Delta once a year with a carry-on, the honest answer is that a no-annual-fee card probably fits you better.

The Earning Questions

How many miles do I earn?

2X miles on Delta purchases, 2X miles at restaurants, 2X miles at U.S. supermarkets, and 1X miles on all other eligible purchases. There are no rotating categories to activate — the grocery run and the takeout order feed the same SkyMiles balance as your flights.

What is TakeOff 15?

A 15% saving when you book Award Travel with miles on Delta flights through delta.com or the Fly Delta app. It does not apply to partner-operated flights or to taxes and fees — but on a large mileage redemption, 15% back is a meaningful number of miles staying in your account for the next trip.

What is Pay with Miles?

On delta.com, you can take up to $50 off the cost of a flight for every 5,000 miles redeemed. It is a flexible way to use a small miles balance that is not yet enough for a full award ticket.

The Credits Questions

What is the $200 Delta Flight Credit?

Spend $10,000 in purchases on the Card in a calendar year and you receive a $200 Delta Flight Credit toward future travel. Treat it as a bonus for households that naturally spend at that level — not as a reason to spend extra.

How does the $100 Delta Stays Credit work?

Up to $100 back per year as a statement credit after booking prepaid hotels or vacation rentals through Delta Stays on delta.com/stays. If you already book a hotel for one Delta trip a year, routing that booking through Delta Stays is the easy version of this credit.

When does the $120 Rideshare Credit start?

After your first Card renewal. It pays up to $10 back each month as a statement credit on U.S. rideshare purchases with select providers, and enrollment is required. It is a year-two benefit, so do not count it in your first-year math.

What about on the plane itself?

Zone 5 Priority Boarding on Delta flights, and 20% back as a statement credit on eligible in-flight purchases — food and beverages on Delta-operated flights; wifi does not qualify. The Card also has no foreign transaction fees, and the official Gold Benefits Guide lists Purchase Protection, Extended Warranty, Baggage Insurance Plan, Car Rental Loss and Damage Insurance (secondary coverage) and the Global Assist® Hotline, with terms and exclusions applying.

The Welcome Offer Question — Answered Honestly

So how many bonus miles will I get?

Nobody can promise you a figure, and you should be suspicious of any post that does. American Express markets this card as "apply and find out your welcome offer." Amex's official public page currently presents an offer of as high as 80,000 bonus miles plus a $250 statement credit after you spend $3,000 or more in purchases on the new Card within the first 6 months of Card Membership, with the offer shown ending November 4, 2026.

Read that the way Amex writes it: "as high as" is a ceiling, not a promise. Amex states you may not be eligible for the maximum welcome offer amount, referral offers can differ from the public offer, and my referral landing page displays no figure at all — your offer is revealed during the application. Amex also lets applicants find out if they are approved with no impact to their credit score; if approved and you choose to accept the Card, your credit may be impacted at that point.

Who Should Skip This Card?

Skip it if you rarely fly Delta, if you never check bags and travel too light to use the credits, or if you carry a credit card balance — rewards cards carry high APRs, and interest erases the value of miles quickly. If you are comparing options first, the earlier benefit-by-benefit breakdown and the rest of the referral guides are on the companion Blogger site, including the Restream launch guide at https://sacrewardsdeals.blogspot.com/2026/10/restream-referral-get-10-credits-to.html

Frequently Asked Questions

Is approval guaranteed through a referral link?

No. Approval is always at American Express's discretion, based on creditworthiness and other factors. A referral changes how the offer is presented, not the underwriting.

Do Delta SkyMiles expire?

Delta SkyMiles do not expire — a long-standing feature of the program, and one less deadline to manage.

Do the bag benefits apply on award tickets?

Yes — benefits like the free checked bag and priority boarding apply whether you paid cash or miles for your Delta flight, with your SkyMiles number on the reservation.

What does the person who referred me get?

Per the referral terms, we could both earn rewards if you are approved and get a Card. No referrer amount is published on the referral page, so none is stated here.

Ready to Check Your Own Offer?

If you fly Delta a few times a year, check bags, and pay your balance in full, open the application page, read your actual welcome offer and the full terms, and decide with real numbers in front of you:

Terms apply. Offer details, benefits and eligibility may change; see the American Express application page for current terms.
